  4. Hierarchies and Inequalities in Qualitative Social Research

Hierarchies and Inequalities in Qualitative Social Research

Recognize, reflect and analyze
Format:
Workshop
Language:
German
On-site event
12 June, 2025 - 10:00am to 4:00pm

t.b.a.

In the workshop, we will jointly reflect on and analyze the relevance that our social positioning can have in qualitative research processes and explore what consequences we can draw from this for research practice. The workshop is structured around four central questions, which we will address using examples from research practice:

  1. To what extent can social inequalities and privileges (such as gender, class, origin, age, etc. and their intersections) influence our access to the field and the building of relationships with research participants?
  2. What forms of violations, attributions, (re)stigmatizations, hierarchies and inequalities can our research contribute to and how can we deal with them responsibly?
  3. What dangers are we ourselves potentially exposed to in the field (such as sexualized violence, racism, etc.) and how can we deal with them/protect ourselves?
  4. How can we recognize and analyze social inequalities when evaluating data material?
