Somatic Performative Research (SPR) offers alternative ways of producing scientific knowledge through artistic and embodied processes, with a focus on experiential awareness and performative writing. This workshop introduces the key principles of SPR and provides an open, collective space where researchers - regardless of artistic background - can engage with somatic and decolonial movement practices as part of their academic research and writing.
The workshop invites the movers to engage with their creative selves, connecting with elements of nature and moving with polyrhythmic and experimental music from the global south. In the second part of the session, we will connect each participant’s artistic practice with their research through guided exercises that emphasize imagination and performative writing.
Please bring the following to the workshop :
- A notebook or notepad for writing.
- An object that holds meaning for you and relates to your academic research.
- A song, poem, or any creative text that you feel 'translates' your research. This could be something that inspires you, captures the most important of your theme, or speaks to your academic journey in a non-traditional way.
We'll experiment with theatre games inspired by Augusto Boal, improvisations, and exercises to decolonize the participants' spine, voice, hips, and other body parts. The workshop also includes a reflective circle with facilitated discussions, with texts about SPR and decolonial artistic practices. Open to all open levels, no prior experience in dance or theatre is required.

Bárbara is a theatre pedagogue and interdisciplinary artist. She completed a Master’s in Choreography and Performance in Germany. As a director and educator, she works through decolonial and migrant perspectives, especially in theatre and dance, connecting her artistic background with social, political, and academic contexts.
