A special kind of encounter: performing arts meet traditional Brazilian handicrafts on a ship.... This socio-cultural project has been changing everyday life in Cajaíba do Sul, in the district of Camamu (Bahia), since construction work on the schooner began at the Cajaíba de Camamu shipyard in November 2010. Over the past few years, a wide range of cultural activities have been carried out in quiet Cajaíba, with the participation of artists from the Baixo Sul region, the federal capital Salvador da Bahia, other Brazilian states, and Europe.

The Escuna Criativa is designed to be a place of cultural exchange and training for Brazilian and European artists, as well as to be able to circulate throughout Brazil with dance and theater productions. To make this dream a reality, Bernhard Bub has created a special design for the ship's deck and interior layout. With a length of 26 meters, a width of 8 meters, two cabins, a kitchen, several bathrooms, and individual accommodation, the ship can comfortably house and transport up to 25 people. The interior areas are designed as multifunctional rooms with audiovisual equipment, so that theater performances, workshops, and lectures can also be held.

With the launch of Criativa in Bahia, Brazil will have a whole new opportunity to implement cultural exchange and vocational training projects in the performing arts and bring them to the settlements on the riverbanks, the quilombos, the indigenous tribes, and all the villages, communities, and port cities throughout Brazil that are touched by the waves of the sea or a river.
