It is well-known that literary history is still primarily viewed from a male perspective. However, the situation is even worse in literary theory than in the literary canon. Students of literature and cultural studies take introductory courses in aesthetics, poetics, criticism, and literary and cultural theory, dealing almost exclusively with the works of male authors.
With the website theoriespuren.de, we aim to change this! For this online encyclopedia of female theory, students have compiled articles intended for lasting use in teaching and research. Through creative and exploratory contributions, such as essays, graphic novels, and podcasts, they present the work of female theorists. We set up the website theoriespuren.de as part of a seminar to make female theory visible and contribute to more diversity in seminars and curricula. The website is intended to leave a lasting impression and encourage further engagement with the work of female theorists.
In cooperation with the Cornelia Goethe Center for Gender Research, Dr. Marília Jöhnk and the participating students would like to celebrate the launch of the website and explore new ways of communicating theory.
