“Gender”, diversity and gender-democratic achievements are at the center of current attacks on democracies that seek to strengthen existing minority rights and reduce gender-specific discrimination and inequalities.
This calls for the bringing together of gender studies and democracy research in order to counteract anti-democratic and discriminatory forces.
The GeViDem knowledge network, in which the universities of Giessen, Marburg, Frankfurt and Kassel as well as the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences cooperate, addresses this issue by pooling existing Hessian research activities and expertise on the relationship between democracy and gender within the framework of four key topics, which deal with questions such as: To what extent are attacks on sexual and gender diversity attacks on democracy? How do gender relations function as a site of democratic resilience? And what role does the redistribution of care work play in the democratization of democracies?
The Cornelia Goethe Centrum is centrally involved in the knowledge network with Johanna Leinius as deputy spokesperson. More information on the knowledge network will follow soon.
