Verónica Gago and Luci Cavallero, both Argentinian academics and members of the collective "Ni una menos", are among the most widely heard voices of the feminist movement in Latin America/Abya Yala - their texts have been translated into numerous languages. In the workshop, we will discuss the social restructuring of reproduction in recent decades in a comparative perspective and examine how these have been addressed in recent feminist movements. We will also focus on the question of how a theoretical perspective on social reproduction helps to shed light on the rise of right-wing political movements and takeovers of power.
Verónica Gago teaches social sciences at the University of Buenos Aires and is a professor at the Institute of Social Studies (IDAES) at the Universidad Nacional de San Martín and member of the feminist collective Ni Una Menos. Her theoretical work was influenced and shaped by her involvement in the militant collective Colectivo Situaciones in Argentina. With numerous publications Gago stands for a lively combination of political theory and feminist practice.
Luci Cavallero has a PhD in social science, is a researcher at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and CONICET, and member of the feminist collective Ni Una Menos. She teaches in the gender studies master’s program at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, Buenos Aires. Her research focuses on debt and gender. Amongst others, she is the co-author of ¿Quién Le Debe A Quién? Ensayos Transnacionales De Desobediencia Financiera (2021, with Silvia Federici and Verónica Gago).
